Philadelphia, PA – April 27, 2025 — Ecclesia United International, a non-profit organization committed to supporting and advocating for persecuted Christians around the world, hosted a powerful event titled “Voice of the Voiceless” on April 27th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The gathering drew over 300 attendees, including U.S. lawmakers, clergy, believers, and human rights activists representing various countries. The chief guest for the evening was Pennsylvania State Senator Joe Picozzi. Also in attendance were Bishop Luka of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and several prominent religious leaders.
The event began with a sincere opening prayer by Pastor Rufus George of Philadelphia Indian Christian Assembly, setting a reverent and unified tone for the evening.
The program featured a compelling series of presentations from speakers representing some of the most persecuted regions in the world:
- Reverend Dr. Freeman O. Ileyymi spoke on behalf of persecuted Christians in Nigeria.
- Dr. and Mrs. Ruben Azad addressed the situation in Pakistan.
- Bimal John, President of the Federation of Indian American Christian Organizations of North America (FIACONA), presented on persecution in India.
- Evangelist Jongam Park delivered a powerful message on behalf of believers in North Korea.
- Steve Bogdan, General Secretary of Ecclesia United International, gave a moving presentation on the plight of Christians in Syria.
A major highlight of the evening was a panel discussion led by Dr. Alvin Joseph, Mission Coordinator of Ecclesia United International, focused on testimonials from survivors of Christian persecution and advocacy efforts:
- Pastor Nelson represented Latin America,
- Pastor Mark Hoakip shared the reality of persecution in Manipur, India,
- Br. David spoke about the ongoing crisis in Nigeria, and
- Aaron Bashir, Chief Executive Consultant of Ecclesia United International and Legislative Director for PA State Senator Doug Mastriano, offered key insights into government policy and advocacy efforts, stressing the importance of legislative action in protecting religious freedom.
Sam Thomas, Director of IT and Communications, presented on Ecclesia’s apologetics mission and technology initiatives, spotlighting the role of digital tools in equipping persecuted believers and expanding global outreach.
The evening’s proceedings were guided by Ecclesia’s leadership:
- Stanley George, Vice-Chairman, delivered the welcome address.
- Paul Verkey, President, offered the chair’s speech, emphasizing the organization’s mission and vision.
- Sophia John, Vice-President, concluded the program with a heartfelt vote of thanks.
- Event Chairman Bill Allen gave an impassioned fundraising call, urging the audience to stand in solidarity with persecuted Christians worldwide.
Music from the Cheltenham Korean Church choir and the Ecclesia Music Team added a powerful spiritual atmosphere, and the evening concluded with a delicious dinner and fellowship.
The event ended in prayer, with a solemn closing prayer led by Rev. V.K. Makwana, bringing the gathering to a thoughtful and hopeful close.
